Amplifying Black Undocumented Voices on College Campuses

60 minutes

This discussion is for college faculty, staff, and practitioners. Dr. Russell will discuss her two recent publications, What does it mean to be undocuBlack? Exploring the double invisibility of Black undocumented immigrant students in U.S. colleges and universities, The (Un)Embraced: The Experiences of Black Undocumented Students on College Campuses. For higher education leaders, practitioners, faculty, and staff who work with undocumented students on college campuses whether in a DREAM Center, admissions, student affairs, or in the classroom. Participants will learn how to re-envision student spaces to be more inclusive and impactful for the entire campus community. 

Undocumented Students & College Access

120 minutes

This training is for high school college counselors, advisors, teachers, and administrators at the K-12 level. Undocumented students are in precarious situations after graduating high school because of their immigrant status and they need undocu-competent staff advising them. Participants learn about state-specific policies as it relates to in-state tuition, state financial aid, and occupational licensure. Additionally, participants learn how and when they can engage with undocumented students. Participants will be given concrete tips on how to counsel and advise undocumented students about the college access process.

Amplifying Black Undocumented Student Voices (Book Talk)

60 minutes

This event is a conversation with Dr. Russell to discuss her book, Amplifying Black Undocumented Student Voices in Higher Education. This book talk will feature Dr. Russell’s personal journey, her research agenda, and the timely discussion about the diversity of the undocumented student community. Following the conversation is a Q&A and a meet and greet.
